Groß Dölln I 2026

The official start of the 2026 season, and the sun was shining. It wasn’t quite T-shirt weather, but conditions were perfect for putting in the laps. Saturday went brilliantly, with nothing more than one harmless excursion off track, and spirits were high in the paddock. At 6 pm, it was time to line up on the grid, with 19 riders entered for the sprint race.

Jörg Dohnke and Mister Koopmän had already enjoyed a fierce battle at the KickOff and picked up exactly where they had left off. Jörg claimed pole, while Koopmän started third after Michael Baczynski snatched second on his BMW. Finn Rechner, Lucas Montanus and Gerrit Schrader completed the top six.
Michael took the lead off the line and pulled away with Jörg and Koopmän on his heels. After just one lap, the trio already had a sizeable advantage over the chasing group, led by Lucas with Nils Krüger and Gerrit Schrader right behind him. Towards the end of lap two, Jörg attacked at the Hundekurve, diving up the inside to take the lead. Koopmän seized the opportunity and squeezed past Michael in the same move. With the two sparring partners at the front, there was no holding them back. Michael had to push hard to keep up but then crashed his BMW. Behind them, Lucas managed to pull away a little, while Gerrit passed Nils. Just behind, Marco Michel and Gerrit Schrader were battling hard when they made contact. Marco went down, bringing out the red flags. Jörg took the win ahead of Koopmän, with Lucas third and Gerrit fourth. Thankfully, neither crash had any serious consequences, and everyone was back in good shape by dinner.

After the podium ceremony, we enjoyed a delicious dinner before heading out for a track walk. By then, it was clear that Dölln had given those winter-stiffened bodies a proper workout, and the paddock soon fell quiet.
Sunday brought the best weather of all, with glorious sunshine from the outset. Despite plenty of aching muscles, everyone made the most of it to keep chipping away at their lap times. There wasn’t a single crash either – long may it continue.

We had a brilliant time with you all and would like to thank every rider, helper and supporter for a fantastic event.
